COAT OF ARMS

The lamp of learning at the core of the insignia symbolizes enlightenment. The icons in the outer layers pertain to aspects of engineering.

The processing of information to study the relation between theory and performance is represented by the icon of signal - bearing waveforms. The icon of antenna represents the incessant scanning of the expanding horizon of knowledge and the thirsty absorption of updated expertise. The icon of lightning symbolizes the forces of nature which the engineer seeks to understand and strives to harness. A characteristic of engineering is that learning and application proceed hand in hand, each enriching the other, and both contributing to productivity. This is represented here by the icon of a factory. The icon of orbiting electrons alludes to the concept of unceasing activity at the elementary level leading to the formation of one's own characteristics. The gear wheel symbolizes movement - movement of the engineer along the path of professional progress.

The olive branches laid in two arcs point to the peace of Magna's learning environment.

The conferment of the degree on the student is the consummation of efforts of the student and the faculty. This is connoted by the convocation cap at the crown of the insignia.

A propelling influence on the students and faculty in all their purposive activity is Magna's motto Ad Majora Natus Sum, a Latin dictum, For greater things, I am born.
