About the Department

The Department of Civil Engineering was introduced in the year 2009. The objective of the Department is to evolve knowledge based disciplined professional graduates with academic excellence and with high technical skills to meet the industrial demands and to serve the society for national progress.

The Department enjoys the patronage of the management and a harmonious team spirit exists between the teacher and the taught which has steered the Department of Civil Engineering to the path of academic success. The Department no doubt will also continue to tread the path of success in the future.

Vision

To develop qualified and competent professionals in the discipline of Civil Engineering

Mission

To provide appropriate inputs to the Institution from the stand point of Civil Engineering department, to plan, build and sustain infrastructural facilities which would support discovery and dissemination of knowledge.

To formulate semester wise programmes for teaching the University – prescribed curricula and associated syllabi for the courses in Civil Engineering

To discover trends in the prospects for Civil Engineering graduates, and to formulate and offer co – curricular programmes for career education.

To guide the students to shape their capabilities for acquiring theoretical foundations and application knowledge to analyze and design complex civil engineering components, design, and systems containing hardware and software components, and work professionally in the areas of Civil Engineering

To help the Civil Engineering students develop a perception of the competences for global work increasingly being required for them.

To extend the scope of co – curricular programmes to include cultural aspects which would enable the Civil Engineering students to effectively interact with the environment and realise their objectives in academic work and preparation for their profession.

Program Educational Objectives

Preparation:

To grow into well-rounded and conscientious Civil Engineering graduates capable of becoming leaders in their profession.

Core Competence:

To apply sound mathematical, scientific and Civil Engineering principles to real world problems to meet the needs of society

Breadth:

To carry out basic and applied research leading to new designs, components and systems in Civil Engineering and related interdisciplinary areas.

To develop proficiency in civil engineering based software and also in the use of simulation and computational tools.

Professionalism:

To communicate and work effectively on team/ individual-based Civil Engineering projects following ethical codes of the profession.

Learning Environment:

To avail of the academic environment, motivate themselves to self – study, and develop lifelong learning skills needed for successful career.

Program Outcomes

1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering mechanics and engineering graphics.

2. Design various civil engineering systems, components, process and mechanisms and conduct experiments with modern instruments, civil based softwares to analyze and interpret data.

3. Analyze and fabricate civil engineering components and systems to meet the needs of the society.

4. Function on multidisciplinary teams for engineering projects involving civil engineering principles.

5. Identify, formulate, and solve multi-disciplinary problems.

6. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.

7. Effectively communicate both verbally and non-verbally.

8. Understand the impact of civil engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context,

9. Appreciate the need for self – education and engage in life-long learning,

10. Acquire a knowledge of contemporary issues, and

11. Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools and software necessary to succeed in higher education, employment and /or entrepreneurship development.
